Newcastle Continued

A Photo of a man made pool which was hollowed out of the rocks. It is very deep, the pool cannot be seen very clearly here because of the surf breaking over it. At the time this photo was taken there was a young fellow swimming in the pool. He had a surf board with him, the breaking waves washed the board over the edge and into the sea. Fortunately for the young man the next breaking wave threw it back into the pool again. Not somewhere I would choose to swim. The name of this pool is the Bogey Hole. It seems this chap called Bogey had his men hollow out the rock to make the pool for his private use.

The photo below shows the pool quite calm, the remaining metal posts that were once around the pool can still be seen if one looks closely. This photo was taken just a few minutes after the one above showing the breaking waves. In the top photo Angela is sitting on the steps where the week prior an Asian tourist slipped and fell into the Bogey whole, sadly losing her life. There was no known way my feet were travelling down even the first step. Edith and Angela are sitting on the steps in this photo.

The photo below is taken from the top of a hill which we used to walk to every day we were in Newcastle. We always went for a very early morning walk. Right along the beach from the top elevation as opposed to the sand, the views were always more rewarding to my mind. I can walk along the sand any time I wish to here in Caloundra.

I have not shown a shot of the ships in the swinging basin waiting to come into port as it was not that spectacular, However Newcastle is an extremely busy port and there are roughly fourty or more boats continually anchored there. I have never seen so many boats in one place even at the swinging basin near Port Lytton (Brisbane) at the mouth of the river.

Ede and her daughter Angie, whose house we were staying at. This is taken on the Breakwater once more.It just goes on forever. There is a warning to stay away from the edges as waves can smash over at any time and have the potential to wash people off the wall, It was quite calm the day we were there however there were some large waves as one walked out to the end. We knew by the Bogey Hole that the sea can be calm one minute and wild the next.

It is very difficult to believe that the sea can wash over this wall when you see the magnitude of it where Ede and Angie are standing, they are both over 6' high, they appear to be dwarfed by the height of the wall near them. We were very interested in where the huge rocks and other structures came from that were used in the construction. Some clever clogs with tongue very much in cheek, suggested they were floated from the other side of the world. Yeah right!!

Next holiday photos are of Hunter Valley and Stradbroke Island.

John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business. He had several
hundred young layers (hens), called "pullets", and ten roosters, whose job
it was to fertilize the eggs (for you city folks).

The farmer kept records and any rooster that didn't perform went into the soup pot and was replaced.

That took an awful lot of his time, so he bought a set of tiny
bells and attached them to his roosters.

Each bell had a different tone so John could tell from a distance,
which rooster was performing.

Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by
listening to the bells. The farmer's favourite rooster was old
Butch, and a very fine specimen he was, too.

But on this particular morning John noticed old Butch's bell hadn't
rung at all! John went to investigate.
The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing. The
pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

But to Farmer John's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his
beak, so it couldn't ring

He would sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on
to the next one.

John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Renfrew
County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result...The judges not only awarded old Butch the

No Bell Piece Prize
but they also awarded him the Pullet surprise as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making:

Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly
coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention.??????

I like old Butch's style Margaret, the bogey hole was interesting, I'd never heard of it before.

Beautiful photos and that Bogey Hole looks a scary place. We live by the English channel when I was growing up and a boy we knew was swept away to sea. He rode his bike along a break water and it was a rough day and it just took him. I have always been scared to get too close to choppy water.

I love the rooster story. LOL

Take care xx

The chicken joke was the greatest. It is a couple of puns, huh?

Hi again Margaret ~ Thanks for comments, glad you liked The Plea and jokes. My garden is looking great after,John, Heather and her son 15 all got busy for over 2 hours today.
I have a huge pile of green waste
that has to wait till the green bin is emptied. They were really good to
do that for me. And wouldn't take any money, but I will catch up at Christmas. Take care, Love, Merle.
