Australian Sunrise

Hello everyone, thought I would just post a couple of poems thatI have just enjoyed
reading as I was researching material to use at work in the morning.
I used to go for very early morning walks when we lived at Tin Can Bay.
I saw many a beautiful sunrise which this poem reminded me of.
Cheers until next time, Margaret.

The Australian
Sunrise

The Morning Star paled slowly, the Cross hung low to sea,
And down the shadowy reaches the tide came swirling free,
The lustrous purple blackness of the soft Australian night
Waned in the grey awakening the heralded the light;
Still in the dying darkness, still in the forest dim
The pearly dew of the dawning clung to each giant limb,
Till the sun came up from ocean, red with the cold sea mist,
And smote on the limestone ridges, and the shining treetops kissed;
Then the fiery scorpion vanished, the magpie’s note was heard,
And the wind in the sheoak wavered and the honeysuckle stirred;
The airy golden vapour rose from the river breast,
The kingfisher came darting out of his crannied nest,
And the bulrushes and reed –beds put off their sallow grey
And burnt with cloudly crimson at the dawning of the day.

James Lister Cuthbertson

Though my soul should sit in darkness,
It will rise in perfect light,
I have loved the stars too fondly ,
To be fearful of the night.

Time is :-

Too slow for those who wait,

Too swift for those who fear,

Too long for those who grieve,

Too short for those who rejoice,

But for those who love, time is

Eternity. Hours fly, flowers die,

New days, new ways, pass by.

Love stays.

As long as your eyes are blue.

Wilt thou love me sweet, when my hair is grey,
And my cheeks have lost their hue?
When the charms of youth shall have passed away,
Will your love as of old prove true?

For the looks may change, and the heart may range,
And the love be no longer fond;
Wilt thou love with truth in the years of youth
And away to the years beyond?

Oh, I love you sweet, for your locks of brown
And the blush on your cheek that lies-
But I love you most for your kindly heart
That I see in your sweet blue eyes-

For the eyes are signs of the soul within,
Of the heart that is real and true,
And mine own sweetheart, I shall love you still,
Just as long as your eyes are blue.

For the locks may bleach, and the cheeks of peach
May be reft of their golden hue;
But mine own sweetheart, I shall love you still,
Just as long as your eyes are blue.

Thanks for sharing poetry that moves you.

I am taken with Time is and As long as your eyes are blue.

They both resonate with me.

My day is richer for having read them.

Thanks for sharing the poems, Margaret. They are wonderful.

Before I moved up here to Mount Tamborine I lived and worked in Gympie for four years (I grew up in Gympie and worked there for the first 5 years of my working life but left it years and years ago)...often on my days off, I would take a trip down to Tin Can Bay. Sometimes for breakfast at the small yacht club there on a Sunday morning or I'd go down on Mondays when there was absolutely nobody around other than the seagulls and pelicans. I loved it...being away from the madding crowds of the restuarant business. I cooked in a restaurant/functions house in Gympie for the four years I was living back there.

As children, we would go to Tin Can Bay with our mother and grandmother, often...get eaten alive by sandflies...we always had a 44-gallon drum with manure burning away in it to keep at bay the sandflies and mozzies. Tin Can Bay was where I got my love of fresh oysters, fish, mud crabs, prawns and scallops from!

Sorry...I'm get carried away here...

I've enjoyed reading your blog and have bookmarked it for the future.

Again, thanks for sharing. :)

Nice poems, Margaret.
We met a 'Margaret' from Australia on our river cruise. She knew all about Tin Can Bay. I'll post her pic soon.

BTW, we are back now. Thanks for reading Billy's posts. His Dad's roses are very nice, he works hard on them. I think we could 'rustle' one if we wanted.
I have a lot of catching up to do, will be back soon.
